The problem is not the Music, its musicians lack of understanding the music Industry. Making music is the easy part (relatively) the hard part, traditionally has been distribution, but now here in the future, bands like MBO can use the internet to replace the industry.
The industry has operated this way since day one. Ignorance is no excuse.

But I think one of Albinis points is the labels have a vested interest in keeping musicians ignorant?
Credit Card Companies do the exact same thing.
But it's true, ignorance is never an excuse.
The real question. How many bands still sign with majors after reading Albinis article?
i am, well was, a long time music biz guy. i can tell you all first hand that from where i worked for years, in retail record stores, the people that were running the stores, for the most part, & the goons at the labels couldn't have cared less for the music. it was, by & large, all about the mighty buck period. i was one of the folks that had warned the higher ups about the digital era coming to kick them in the ass & they wouldn't listen & guess what happened. it did exactly that. now they are all but gone. tower records was a great place for many many years, then they decided that they wanted to be everything to everyone & they became nothing to anyone. no one cared anymore & they were so dumb about the on line world.ok whatever. there is tons & tons of great music out there. i have tons of music & i find stuff everyday that is new to me. that isn't hard to do. i think that the people complaining are the ones that made money off someone elses art & now they are pissed that their old bussiness model is outdated. i love the fact that MBO gave the music to people for free. i turn people onto it almost daliy. i really like the record. ( i show my age) if they ever come to phoenix will i be there? yep. i want them to play my wedding in november. i just hope they have time to cuddle after the gig. but how cares what i have to say........

Most bands are doomed to repeat history because they are stupid, greedy, starstruck, snot-nosed punks who think they know everything. They are more fanatic about image than learning from history. Even if all you ever did in school was listen to Rock n Roll you should still know these basic lessons from Floyd.
