Absinthe
The St.George distillery in Alameda CA have just released their first run of the ever so popular "intellectual" spirit Absinthe. This is the stuff that ushered in demons into Baudelaire's mind, sent Poe screaming from the gallery and made Wilde even smarter (depending on who you believe).Apparently St George are the first makers of the stuff after a recent lift on the making of Absinthe in the USA. It's kinda hard to find good Absinthe these days, even in Europe (the stuff I got in Paris was not so great), so I'm excited to try it.
Craig got me a bottle which I will start drinking tonight (120 proof!) during our NYE spectacle. If your around join me for a drink.
Thanks Craig and Chris!!

I've gotten a couple of bottles of the stuff from Europe, one green and one red, both are pretty vile in my opinion. I wasnt even able to get drunk enough on it to experience the psycho buzz everyone rants about.
its definitely different, but, its too much like fermented melted licorice for my tastes.
Let us know how it is. I'm probably going to try to get a bottle or two when they have more stock in January. I would share a drink with you tonight, but I'm too cheap to pay for the Claypool extravaganza so I'll be sitting at home drinking sidecars for new year's eve.
have fun you lucky duck.
yeah it does have a liquorice kick that's an accuried taste, but I usually add more sugar to take the bite off.
We'll see how it goes.
Buy mountain absinthe (85°), the rest is just utter crap...
Shortly and delicately dip a sugar cube into it, take it off, set it on fire, and put it back in the drink. Enjoy.
The StGeorge is pretty damn good..one of the best that Ive had.
Never did the cube on fire trick though. Will try!
here's the skinny on Absinthe. I learned all kinds of stuff!
