Dylan Sisson

Dylan is a very good painter. He works in the "Creepy Cute" genre. Actually he might be the only person ever to work in the "Creepy Cute" genre? I have a few of these images marked for my iPhone desktop. Kick ass.

Phase III Audioanimatronics

Kinda reminds me of Captured! By Robots!. We have a Chuck E Cheeze band that was rescued from some place in Canada here at work, but no one has programmed it. Sad.

By the way, if you understand the title of this post then you are in as much trouble as I am.

The Sinclair ZX Spectrum

"One strategy that major record companies have been employing lately to deter downloading is adding bonus computer content to new CD releases. I recently discovered that this technique is not unique to CD's, but had in fact been practiced in the vinyl era as well. That's right: there were a handful of records released in the late 70's and early 80's that contained computer programs as part of the audio. This is totally insane, and totally great."

Feds Love Booze. Hate Medical Pot.

Ok. This shit burns me up.

Via Boing Boing

"The US House voted against the Hinchey Medical Marijuana Amendment, which would have prohibited the feds from busting people for possession of small quantities of marijuana.

To celebrate, the DEA raided six medical marijuana dispensaries in Los Angeles, even though the people of California passed a law that allows dispensaries to operate in the state.

Another examples of how states rights only matter to politicians when it furthers their ideological agendas"

I wonder how much money has gone into the black hole of "The War on Drugs"? Sounds familiar? Let's see, we have a "War on Terror" as well. Hmmmm what's next, a "War on Jealousy"?

And do you really believe that both the Democrats and the Republicans don't have a moral agenda that they want you to subscribe to?

Both parties are failures, and we are on the middle road to someplace very ugly.

Almost The Most Repelant People On Planet Earth

I know I know. It's a easy target, but knowing about all the fucked off shit that is happening in the world...and then looking at these images, well it just makes me want to renounce the culture I live in. Call it a knee jerk reaction. Now rehab has become worthy of fetishism! I guess if you need further proof why the Fashion Industry represents everything that is wrong with Western Civilization then click on.

Memories

Ok. I was once in a band and we were offered to play a big dance for developmentally disabled folk. We normally didn't play dances, because we didn't really play dance music but it was good money etc, so we signed on. The day of the show I somehow managed to show up to the gig an hour late. I walked into the huge auditorium to witness the spectacle of over 300 disabled people in a massive conga line, all dancing to the tune of Billy Jean. I looked up to see my band, who were wide eyed yet smiling in disbelief. I managed to wave to them right before I was grabbed by a stumpy fellow who forced me into the conga line. He would not let go.

This rendition of Billy Jean went on for 40 mins easy. I think we played it at least 5 times that evening. Understand, we didn't know Billy Jean.

I guess Ive played my share of big shows, but that was by far the best show of my life.

Todd Oldham/Charley Harper

My work does cool stuff sometimes.

One of my all time fave designers is Charley Harper (who passed away just last month at the age of 84). Todd Oldham, a contemporary designer of note, collaborated with Harper to create this comprehensive review of Harper's six decade long career. Now Oldham is touring the country on a book tour and is stopping by to chat.

This makes me very excited.

MBO: Rehearsals

We are rehearsing away, dusting off a few songs from the album that we've yet to play and trying a new one. One of my favorite things about playing live is how the songs take on a life of their own, how the group mind dictates the terms. You can brow beat them down as much as you like, but no matter how much you rehearse them they will always surprise you.

I'm a big fan of too much rehearsal, as I don't think you can leave the fight in the gym. The boxing ring and the gym are very different places.

Currently we are are doing:

Idiot Jones Will Have His Day
Spaceman, Time To Go
Occam's Razor
Stay!
My Secret Life Is Killing Me
These Days
Drowning Not Waving
Kicking The Can
Ambian

Come on down next week if you can!

Talking Heads. 1980

Someone just sent me these links of the Talking Heads live in Rome in 1980. This was by far the greatest line up the band ever had (Bernie, Belew, Steve Scales..), supporting their greatest album (Remain In Light). Yep I saw this tour when I was a wee little lad. My God they were good.

When The Lights Go Down In The City

San Francisco Bay Bridge rules. I was in a punk band that rehearsed in a expansive basement of a military mansion on Yurba Buena Island. At breaks we would go bridge climbing...Insane and stupid yes, but fun for a 17 year old punk kid.

These pics remind me of the Journey song. I'm sentimental that way.

Moore Rips CNN

Via Democracy Now...

"In an interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer Monday, filmmaker Michael Moore blasted CNN for its coverage of the Iraq war and called on the network to apologize to American viewers. Moore also took Blitzer to task for CNN’s coverage of his film “SiCKO” on the U.S. healthcare system. Filmmaker Michael Moore appeared on Wolf Blitzer’s show the Situation Room Monday for the first time in three years. Moore took Blitzer to task not only for a piece he had just broadcast on Moore’s new film SiCKO about US healthcare but for his coverage of Iraq.

* Michael Moore, interviewed by Wolf Blitzer on CNN’s “The Situation Room.”

AMY GOODMAN: Filmmaker Michael Moore appeared on Wolf Blitzer's show on The Situation Room Monday for the first time in three years. Moore took CNN's Blitzer to task not only for a piece he had just broadcast on Moore’s new film SiCKO about the ailing US health industry, but for his coverage of Iraq. This is an excerpt.

MICHAEL MOORE: Why don't you tell the truth to the American people? I mean, I wish that CNN and the other mainstream media would just for once tell the truth about what's going on in this country, whether it's with healthcare -- I don't care what it is. I mean, you guys have such a poor track record. And for me to come on here and have to listen to that kind of crap.

I mean, seriously, I haven’t been on your show now for three years. The last time I was on, you ran a similar piece about Fahrenheit 9/11, saying, “Oh, this can’t be true, what he’s saying about the war, how it’s going to be a quagmire, the weapons of mass destruction.” You know, and why don't you start off, actually, with my first appearance back here on your show in three years and maybe apologize to me for saying that three years ago, because it turned out everything I said in Fahrenheit was true. Everything has come to happen, everything I said. I mean, I took you in that film to Walter Reed Hospital, and it took three years before you or any of the rest of the mainstream media would go to Walter Reed Hospital and see what was happening to our troops.

So for me to have to sit here and listen again to more crap about socialized medicine or how the Canadians have it, you know, worse than us, and all this -- all the statistics show that we have far worse healthcare than these other industrialized countries. We’re the only ones that don’t have it free and universal.

And there’s a -- you said that Germany was the only one that was better than us in terms of wait times. The Commonwealth Fund last year showed, of the top six countries, we were second to last, next to Canada. It showed that Britain, for instance, 71% of the British public, when they call to see a doctor, get to see the doctor that day or the next day. It’s 69% in Germany. It’s 66% in Australia.

And you’re the ones who are fudging the facts. You fudged the facts to the American people now for I don’t know how long about this issue, about the war. And I’m just curious, when are you going to just stand there and apologize to the American people for not bringing the truth to them that isn’t sponsored by some major corporation? I mean, I’ll sit here for as long as it takes, if you can do that for me.

WOLF BLITZER:
Alright, well, just to be -- in fairness, we had a lot of commercials for SiCKO that we’ve been running on CNN, as well, so, you know, we have commercials. This is a business, obviously, but let's talk a little bit about one of the --

MICHAEL MOORE: You have a nightly medical report. You have something called The Daily Dose. I watch CNN. You have it every day, The Daily Dose, sponsored by fill-in-the-blank. And you are funded by these people day in and day out. Don’t even compare that to my movie being out for a couple of weeks and a couple of rinky-dink ads for fifteen seconds.

WOLF BLITZER: No, I would say that -- I don’t know if you’re familiar with --

MICHAEL MOORE: Come on! Come on, Wolf!

WOLF BLITZER: No, no, no. I don’t know if you’re familiar with Dr. Sanjay Gupta’s record, but I would stack up his record on medical issues with virtually anyone in the business.

MICHAEL MOORE: Alright, so when I now put on my website, as I will do tonight, how his facts were wrong about the $7,000 that we spend, it's actually -- I've read one report now, it's even more than $7,000 that we spend per person each year in this country. I'm going to put the real facts up there on my website so people can see what he just said was absolutely wrong.

WOLF BLITZER: Well, if we get that confirmed, obviously, we'll correct the record. Sanjay -- but I'm just saying .--

MICHAEL MOORE: Oh, you will?

WOLF BLITZER: Obviously.

MICHAEL MOORE: You'll be getting it.

WOLF BLITZER: Sanjay Gupta is not only a doctor and a neurosurgeon, but he's also an excellent, excellent journalist. Look, I saw the film, and it's a powerful, powerful --

MICHAEL MOORE: Yeah, I saw Dr. Sanjay Gupta over there embedded with the troops at the beginning of the war. He and the others of you in the mainstream media refused to ask our leaders the hard questions and demand the honest answers. And that's why we're in this war. We're in the fifth year of this war, because you and CNN, Dr. Gupta, you didn't do your jobs back then, and now here we are in this mess.

What if you had actually done the job on that? That's why anybody who hears anything of what you say now about universal healthcare should question what you're saying, what you're putting out there. You didn't do the job for us with the war. You're not doing it with this issue. And I just wonder when the American people are going to turn off their TV sets and quit listening to this stuff.

WOLF BLITZER: Sanjay Gupta did an excellent job covering that war. He was with the Navy's medical doctors, and he went in and risked his life, and he actually started to perform some neurosurgery on the scene. It was --

MICHAEL MOORE: You have to ask the questions.

WOLF BLITZER: Look --

MICHAEL MOORE: Why are we here? That's the question. Why are we here in this war? Where's the weapons of mass destruction? Why didn't you -- why did it take you so long, Wolf, to finally take on Vice President Cheney? It took you to 2007 before you made the man mad at you.

WOLF BLITZER: Those are fair questions.

MICHAEL MOORE: I mean, four years!

WOLF BLITZER: Look, let's talk a little --

MICHAEL MOORE: Where were you?

Patterns

Sorry. I have to gloat. I love this shit.

Years back Bob Livingston (R) was outed by Larry Flynt for having numerous affairs. Livingston was a Moral leader in the Republican party.

His replacement

Sen. David Vitter (R). Another Moral leader.

"He has stressed family issues, supports a constitutional ban on same-sex marriage and has pushed for reauthorization of an abstinence education program."

He was just outed for frequenting hookers in DC.

Keep on waving your Morality flags Godboys! You guys are doing a great job!

Here's a interesting demo of a guy who made a app with Max DSP that allows him to scratch his voice in real time via the Ms Pinky system.

Sure his Hip Hop posturing is pretty lame/sad but the possibilities of the the technology are interesting none the less.

Max DSP is the impossibly difficult to use programming language that musical eggheads adore. The rest of us don't know what to make of it, but we know it's cool.

Who Runs The World?

OK, I'm a few days late for the 4th, none the less, here's my perfect patriotic reading material recommendation:"Who Really Runs The World?" by Thom Burnett and Alex Games. The chapter on Corporations alone should have you reeling in horror.

So put down your firecrackers retards, America hasn't happened yet.

"Who runs the world? This book looks at the conspiracies in everyday life, both hidden and not-so-hidden. It examines actual people, businesses, social networks, corporate alliances, and the dark forces of conspiracy and secret history that hold them together. The conclusions reached may shock and scandalize some people-especially those who fervently believe in democracy..."

Deliver Us From Evil

Yet another sick day in bed watching movies. I just saw the Amy Berg documentary "Deliver Us From Evil" and even in the pitch of fever I was hurling obscenities at the screen.

I hold everyone in the Catholic culture in contempt for these sexual abuse crimes: from the pedophile, rapist priests, the Church for brutally turning their backs on the victims and the followers themselves for empowering these fuckers in the first place.

Here's yet another example on how believing in the Tooth Fairy in the sky can lead to ruinous ends.
