29 Days
Our pal Derek Greenberg (The man behind Beanpole and the bassist for The Spent Poets, among other things) and a group of friends have embarked on a project where each person writes a song a day, for 29 days.
I love projects containing constraints, as they force a person to work quickly and make decisions in different ways. While ultimately I'm all for taking the time to craft something, these types of projects are good to clean out the pipes. And sometimes the best songs are the ones written quickly.

This is fantastic! There should be a musicvideo for every day, shoot and edited on the same day. Great youtube stuff.
I love derek's 29days song.
Beanpole is da SHIIIIT Ya'll!
Beanpole-tang clan.
that's awesome. Listened to a bunch of songs this afternoon.
I especially enjoyed Derek's 'geek-tracks' about Ruby on Rails... and Filing Bugs... More geeks need to hear those... I think they would enjoy them.
Derek is the master!
That's sweet. I know of a bit of the experimental theater troupes here do shit like this, though even more constraint.
One of them is "Play In A Day," where a group has to write, rehearse and produce a play in, you guessed it, one day. Another one called "Berzerk!" is a bit similar. A group of local playwrights have to write a play in 10 minutes based off of a random phrase a guy makes up that they have to use in it. They send it in and then a week later a group of actors rehearse it and perform it in 24 hours. There's other restrictive plays they got too, but I can only think of one more of them. Really cool to see.
There should be gig in a day festival were the same bands would play... that's right one gig for every single day of the month, but with different setlists. I love setlists. They are so beautiful.
As a software QA engineer, Derek's "I Like to File Bugs" really resonates with me. It is now one of my favorite songs of all time. I could relate and laughed out loud many times ... yes, I am a geek.
