"There's More To Life Than Books, But Not Much More"
Hey MBO readers! What's in your book stack? You know, the one by your bed? Here's mine. I've been getting my Sci-Fi/Horror jones on these days.China MiƩville "Iron Council"
A Marxist revolution remaking of the fantasy genre. His first in this series "Perdido Street Station" is a great read as well.

Clive Barker "Books of Blood Vol I-III"
Inventive, sadistic monsters rule.

Neil Gaiman "American Gods"
A fun ride indeed. Gaiman recently asked his fans which one of his books should be given away for free and "American Gods" seems to be topping the vote list. I'll link here if he gives it out.

William T. Vollmann : Rising Up and Rising Down
I just got the 3,000-plus page (7 vol, yikes!) McSweeney's edition. A history of violence. A huge history of violence. I love Vollmann.

I've had somewhat of a Vonnegut obsession recently. Besides the eight of his that I just read, I've also read Innocent when you Dream, Freakonomics, and Fight Club.
Which of yours would you recommend to someone who really likes Kurt Vonnegut?
I adore Vonnegut as well. "Breakfast of Champions" is a particular fave.
Hmmm..well..no one is really like Vonnegut right?
You ever read "Infinite Jest"? Again, it's nothing like Vonnegut, but it remains one of my all time faves. If you do try to read, just take it slow..It's rewards are endless.

(for some reason I keep double posting?)
Breakfast of Champions was great. Have you seen the Bruce Willis cinematic version?
I have not heard of it, no. I'll have to give a look for it at the library. Thanks
speaking of books, I meant to thank you for the recommendation to check out 'Rock On' by Dan Kennedy.
I blazed through half of it this weekend and found myself LOL'ing many times. I especially enjoyed the chapter where his idea of digital distribution gets 'discussed' in the big A&R meeting. Fucking classic. "Uh, Beavis... having a big idea, like, sucks or something."
