Pet Sounds!!
I'm not sure that I can write anything new here that hasn't already been said about the Beach Boys Pet Sounds. This music is perfect for so many reasons (arrangements, performances, lyrics, etc) but the thing that really gets me is the feeling of innocence that Brian Wilson obsessively captured in 1965 (while his band-mates were on tour in Europe). My fave songs are "God Only Knows" (which I'd give everything I've ever written to have authored), "I Just Wasn't Made For These Times" and "Hang On To Your Ego". But every song pretty much slays me. Pet Sounds is one of my favorite album of all time. I've listened it a bunch of times and still hear new new things with every time I listen. It is one of the few perfect albums. The instrumental songs(Lets go away for a while and Pet Sounds) are pure genius. Alright, i'm done gushing.
Yeah..The song "Pet Sounds" is so fun! Kinda like a weird Martin Denny/Beach Boy hybrid.

The Beach Boys were one of my favorite bands as is Pet Sounds as a favorite album.And it is pure Brian Wilson.Like you said,Brian was in the studio with the best studio musicians while the rest of the boys were on the road.It is a shame now that when you see the Beach Boys are playing concerts these days that Carl and Dennis Wilson are no longer alive,Mike Love and Bruce Johnston are touring as the Beach Boys,Al Jardine is doing his own thing (sometimes doing shows with Brian),And Brian touring by himself in a druged out state of mind He has been liked that since what? 64'?).I used to attend Beach Boys shows quite a few times when they were still all together.It is a shame that they just don't put the band to rest.
I've heard the Brian's "Smile" performances were pretty good? He seems a bit beaten up, but much much better than he was in the 70's - 80's.
Yep...The rest of them seem to be whoring out the name to any County Fair that will have em. I've also heard that Mike Love is an notorious asshole.

I should loan you a couple of dvd's i have.One is Brian's Smile live and the other one is the Beach Boys "Good Timin'"1980 Live at Knebwrth,England.This was the last concert with all the origianl Beach Boys playing together.Dennis was so fucked up at this show that he was messing up big time on the drums.Classis footage of brother Carl looking back at him as Dennis was fucking up the timing on the drums (the look on his face is unreal,he could tell he was pissed).Sadly,Dennis drowned i think a year or two after this show.Let me know if you would like to borrow them.You have my email addy.I was the one that sent you the other Bottom of The Hill photos.
