Recording Diary v32
This beautiful hunk of workmanship is my new Gibson Hummingbird Acoustic! I'm in love with her. I've been coveting a Hummingbird since I was 13 years old and, after exhaustive research and searching, I finally found one that is just beautiful. This is a custom shop model (only one made!) with a "bookend" back and a Maple tiger striped neck. So perdy. And it sounds like a dream. Rich, smooth and even. Gush.Last night we worked on "Aphids" some more. Craig started things off by playing his beautiful fretless bass through a Mutron Phaser, which gave us a thick and bubbly sound. He then played what turned out to be a fairly technical rhythmic part. This took about an hour until he was happy with the performance. It sounds cool!
The Hog arrived and we then played some keys, all of them via Reason using the ever so popular Abbey Road Refills. We started first by running the Harmonium through the Boomergang (which is a hardware looping device). After finding a good drone loop I then rhythmically placed the loop into the song, tapping the Boomerangs "once" button in time throughout the tune.
We then messed around with some piano loops, finally finding one that was suitable. It was placed into the song at the 3rd verse.
Next the Hog played an 8th note Piano part on the chorus' and also added some simple chord stabs throughout the tune.
Then we added some Tubular Bell hits on the chorus, followed by a glock part that was then doubled on piano.
A productive evening! This one is getting close to complete.

Nice gee-tar there. Will you play it live? If so, can't wait to bang around the walls of rock clubs.
B-E-A-utiful axe adam.
Are you using stock strings? Did you know that strings come in half sizes now?
Have you ever played a Martin?
If so, how does it compare to the Gibson?
Yeah..Stock strings for now..but I need to restring her pretty soon.
I have played Martins. They are fine indeed. All guitars are different..but I believe that Martins tend to be a little "richer", demonstrated by lower mids in the overall tone?
Having said that Ive played many Gibsons that were just as rich as a Martin.
Aesthetically Im not really into how Martins look though.
Hummingbirds are traditionally made to accompany a voice..so they are super nice for chords etc. I do notice that the Hummingbird tends to get a little thin when used for leads or delicate picked parts. Could be the way I play though?
If your looking for a Gibson Hummingbird be wary of the ones made from 69 to mid 80's as the workmanship and materials changed considerably.
If you can find a pre 65 Hummingbird you will be playing what most consider to be the best representation of the gutairs sound. You also are rich.
Although the Gibsons re-issues are pretty amazing, and some feel even beat the original in many ways.
All subjective.
Can you tell what my latest obsession is?
Is your latest obsession bear porn?
Well..1980's German scat porn actually. But your close!
Ah. Classy.
My second guess would of been masturbating in sopping wet diapers.
