Hard Boiled

What I dislike about most graphic novels is usually not the writing but the illustrations/inking etc (Sandman, Dark Night, lots of the Invisibles) but " Hard Boiled" is a clear standout as the writing and graphics are equally stellar. Hell, the graphics may even be better. Geoff Darrow's stuff here is just awe inspiring work. One could spend hours staring into the world that he created.

It looks like "Hard Boiled" may become a movie with writer Frank Miller to direct.

Darrow's work on Shaolin Cowboy is pretty fucking awesome too. Unfortunately it seems to only come out once or twice a year and hasn't been put into trade format yet.

It's from the Wachowski Brothers'
Burlyman Entertainment.

And while we're on the topic of comic art ... one of my proudest possessions is framed on the wall of my office ... Dave Gibbons' (Watchmen) original artwork for the cover of Transmetropolitan 18.

It, of course, looks much better and more glorious in its original pencil and ink form without the title and all the extra stuff.

I've vowed to one day own the other two Dave Gibbons Transmetropolitan covers too, but I'm starting to doubt that will happen.

Here's a photo of the original artwork. It's 11x17 and shows so much more line detail than the final product.
