Crystal Castles: Rip Off Artists?
So it seems that there is this band called "Crystal Castles" (which is a name that may be worse than MBO..your call) who have found themselves in the center of a plagerism controversy, for both musical content and the art they used on a CD. It seems the 8-Bit music culture is up in arms about these guys ripping off a artist who uses a Nintendo as source sounds.
This mess is interesting because of all the implications about the culture of appropriation AND Creative Commons licensing.
I have to say it seems real sad if someone is actively ripping off another artist in this particular electronic genre, where the machines can be used to create a multitude of sounds, rhythms and textures. Fucking sad and lazy actually.

If it is the latter, I was supposed to see them here in Milwaukee, but they broke up 2 days before making it.

makes you wonder though... at some point, with all these different machines making different sounds and noises, there's gotta be some overlapping happening eventually.
but yeah... ripping off other artists is pretty low... and very easy these (digital) days.
For me, the best way to make shit sound more unique is to run it through effects. Like guitar pedals. When I play my noise, it's the pedals that make it even better.
My friends here in Finland make incredible original Nintendo Sound music! One of them plays gameboy like buckethead plays guitar! Hah. They are gonna play on my birthday.

yeah but the 8 bit music isn't based on sampling
the game consoles are used just like a soft synth or like a computer based sequencing program controlling an actual analogue synth contained in one of the chips on the console
so its just like if you were to have your composition on your synth, guitar violin stolen and not credited
